Barbara Katz-Rothman’s research within the Netherlands provides interesting insights into the potential hurt of routine prenatal testing. The Dutch midwives described pregnancy as a time not only of making a child, but of constructing a family and making a mother. The midwives know that start, like life, doesn’t ever include guarantees. Prenatal testing highlights and escalates uncertainty.
